Women's Trench Coat

A long double-breasted trench in the classic khaki, cut to fall below the knee. Every element on it is a solved problem carried over from the original military pattern: the storm flap across the right shoulder sheds water away from the chest, the epaulettes sit at the shoulder, and the buckled straps at each cuff cinch the sleeve closed against wind driving up the arm.

The cloth is a tightly woven cotton-blend gabardine with a water-repellent finish — dense enough to turn a shower, breathable enough to wear on a mild day without overheating. It is a coat for the wet in-between weeks of spring and autumn rather than for deep winter.

The front closes on two rows of buttons, with a wide self-fabric belt that ties or buckles at the natural waist, plus a matching belt loop at the back. Deep welt pockets sit at the hip. A back vent and a deep yoke let it move when you walk. Wear it open over a knit or belted over a dress. Dry clean to preserve the water-repellent finish.
